Things were intense, but sadly they did not bring on true labor….
Day 15 Family Life: Castor Oil Induction Follow-up…Unsuccessful
Yesterday and last night were very long. The castor oil induction was successful in getting contractions moving, but it did not get labor progressing.
Contrary to popular belief, a common reason for not progressing in labor is simply because your body is not ready to be in labor. For me, this meant 10 plus hours of heavy contractions, but very little dilation. Now, I know this is not my norm for labor, since I have had several babies before…I tend to dilate very quickly when dilation begins. This is not what happened.
So, I am glad that we gave the induction a try, because now I know that my body was not just waiting for a little “push” to get things going. Once the contractions started to taper off, and I knew that they were really not going anywhere, I was comfortable calling it quits and just taking things a day at a time.
On Monday I will get a non-stress test to check the baby and my fluid levels, if I have not gone into spontaneous labor by then. There is also a possibility that my dates are incorrect, which means this baby may not be quite as far along as previously thought. Everything is possible, so I am at total peace with the situation and am continuing to trust in the Lord over this whole process. I appreciate all the prayers for health, safety, and wisdom we can get during this time. It is uncharted territory for us! Thanks very much.
Here’s a little re-cap video update:
Susan in St. Louis says
That doesn’t sound like fun – 10 hours of labor for “naught”. 🙁 Still praying over here!
