Do you know what your strengths are? Has anyone ever asked you?
“So, what are your strengths? What are you good at? What are the things that you just excel at without really even trying?”
And then, if you are anything like me, you just kind of stared back, blankly, at the questioner with emptiness of the mind as your answer?
This past year has been all about learning and embracing my strengths, and developing the understanding that strengths are our contribution to the world as designed by God!
Your strengths intertwine with your unique opportunity to bless the world and feel delight and joy as you fulfill your purpose.
Do you HAVE to use your strengths?
I never really understood my strengths. I mean, I had always had people tell me what they were, but I never put two and two together.
“Wow, you’re so good at _______! What an amazing gift you have!”
That! That right there! When you hear or have heard these kinds of statements about you, it is a symptom of strength recognition.
Now, just because you have a strength in something does not necessarily mean that it is something that you will pursue in your life.
For instance, I love to sing. I sang a LOT as a child and I even made All State Choir. I took singing lessons my Senior year of high school and the woman fully expected that I was planning on pursuing some kind of singing career.
But, me…I had absolutely NO desire to do so. Singing was simply a fun thing I liked to do, but I definitely had no interest in singing for income. It is not a passion of mine. Just simply something I am good at.
Now, those who are closest to me are the ones who get to experience this strength. They are basically the only people to hear me sing, and I’m okay with that.
But, the strengths that I can’t but help myself to do, the things that are so inherently build into the fabric of my soul, that even if I tried I would feel like a part of my soul was missing if I did not pursue, THOSE are the strengths that I need to honor, even if other people disagree.
Tired of burying your strengths? Use what your Father gave you!
It seems that when we truly begin to walk in our purpose that we will inevitably meet some resistance in walking it out.
I know for me, some of the resistance was wrapped up in fears and ideas of others that played over and over like a broken record in my head:
“Why do you think you can succeed in doing _______?”
“Oh, there’s no way that’ll work out!”
“You just need to go do _____. That’s a better idea.”
It’s amazing how many doubters, nay-sayers, and antagonists will arise when you begin to trust and step into your purpose. The enemy does not like it when you use your God-given strengths.
You know how to upset the devil? USE your strengths!
There comes a time when you just gotta trust the Lord and where He is leading you, even if no one else understands!
Like Abram and Sarai, we receive a call from the Lord to go into the desert in the hopes of traveling to the Promised Land! And they received a whole new identity because of it! Our Abba took them from one name to another, from one identity to a new creation. And, He is still doing the same for us today.
The vision that is inside of you, that is wrapped up in using your greatest strengths and passions, THAT is your Promised Land!

Your purpose and your strengths are intertwined
I truly believe that the Lord is leading all of His children to their Promised Land, even though unique and on a different path from others.
You have a purpose! And, your strengths are part of that purpose.
Embrace them. Love them. Give thanks for them, because surely we can take no pride in having given them to ourselves, right?
Seek the Lord for wisdom in using them, and the timing for when He wants you to walk and take action.
I have no doubt, whatsoever, that He will gladly provide you the Way.
